Why Are BaZi Months Divided by Solar Terms?

The Year Pillar is bounded by the Beginning of Spring, and the Month Pillar by the twelve “Jie” terms. The first month begins at the Beginning of Spring and then passes through the Awakening of Insects, Clear and Bright, Beginning of Summer, and so on; therefore, the first day of the lunar month does not directly determine the BaZi Month Pillar.

Time Correction

Which Pillars Does True Solar Time Affect?

True solar time corrects clock time based on the birthplace’s longitude, time zone, equation of time, and historical daylight saving time. If the corrected time crosses an hour boundary, the Hour Pillar changes; if it crosses a day boundary, the Day Pillar may change as well.

Ten Gods Basics

How to Read the Ten Gods and Hidden Stems?

The Ten Gods are centered on the Day Stem, describing the generating and overcoming relationships, along with the Yin/Yang relations, between the other Heavenly Stems and the Day Master. Each Earthly Branch also contains one or more Hidden Stems, whose Ten Gods supplement the information within the branch.

What Is the Difference Between Luck Pillars, Annual Luck, and Monthly Luck?

Each Luck Pillar typically spans ten years; annual luck switches at the Beginning of Spring, and monthly luck at the twelve Jie terms. When using the three time layers together, first locate the Luck Pillar, then select the year of annual luck and the specific month.

  • A Luck Pillar transition date may fall in the middle of an annual luck period
  • Monthly luck runs from the Yin month to the Chou month of the following year
What if I only know the approximate hour of birth?

You can first plot the chart with the closest midpoint time, then try the two adjacent hours separately, focusing on comparing the Hour Pillar, Life Palace, Body Palace, and luck-starting age. If the birth time falls near an hour boundary, we recommend keeping both charts for further comparison.

Why might different charting websites give different results?

Common differences come from true solar time, historical daylight saving time, whether the day changes at 23:00 or 00:00, the method for calculating the start of luck, and the derivation rules for Symbolic Stars. This site lists the conventions used at the top of each chart.

How to Enter a Lunar Birthday That Falls in a Leap Month?

After switching to “Lunar calendar,” enter the year, month, and day in lunar form and check “Lunar leap month.” Regular months do not need this. If the date is invalid, the page will prompt you to check it again.
